In Words:
Hi, you’re listening to episode number 62.
Okay, so this week it’s like the whole – I don’t know. America is just in major turmoil this week. I’ll tell you, it was a struggle to stay focused after the Fourth of July because it was after the holiday. Then, the next thing you know all these different shootings. One on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday into Friday. Just (sigh) a lot. A lot going on.
A lot of people were wondering what should we post on social media right now. Should we still talk about business? I even saw one person on Instagram post saying we don’t want to hear about your products or your clothes or your shoes or your food, you know, we’re mourning our brothers.
I get all that. In fact, I was tempted to just totally stop everything on Instagram as far as posting and stuff because it’s like – I don’t know. But then I also found myself scrolling on Instagram and Facebook for things that weren’t related to what was going on, as a relief, you know.
That’s when I was like you know what, I’m going to still post what I was going to post, and I’ll add and acknowledge it that we do need to pray for all the families on all sides, and that we need to come together. Because I do feel like things that are presented to us in the media are intended to draw a wedge between races and communities against the police. It’s just crazy.
But I want to start off the podcast this way because as I record this, I mean, that’s what’s happening. That’s the real – that’s what’s going on. To just share with you – a few episodes back we talked about what to put on social media and about being yourself. In times like this when we have tragedies that touch all of us, whether it’s directly or indirectly, we’re human.
If we were in an office, we would be talking to our co-workers about it. My standpoint is I’m going to say what I would say if I were talking to a co-worker. I think that should be your approach as well to say whatever is on your heart, what you would say to a coworker, or what you did share with a coworker, or whatever was said at work.
I’m using the work environment specifically because what you say at home behind closed doors, I don’t want anybody to get too comfortable, too relaxed. It is social media. It does last forever. Even with that, what we’re saying behind closed doors at home still is there, it’s still in the heart, and it still will eventually come out.
Unfortunately, some people have been so discouraged by different comments they’ve seen online that they not only want to get offline, but even contemplating whether or not they want to engage in business online, or that particular business because of that person and their comments. I mean, all these different things.
I think what we need is more encouragement, more hope, and prayer.
If this is your first time listening to the podcast, or you’ve been a regular listener, I thank you for listening today. I believe in Jesus Christ, and so when I pray that is who I am praying to, and I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ sees everything. He already knows. Knew what was going to happen long before it happened. Some people question God, you know, why are these bad things happening? Well, there are bad people in the world that made bad choices and there are consequences for that. What we have to do is trust God.
The way I came to grips with everything and about what to post, what not to post, is I just reflected on how I felt when my father passed away. I wanted the world to stop because my dad died. I wanted everybody to just stop. Don’t breathe, don’t move, you know, because I’m hurt. You know that is not realistic. Life goes on. The sun goes on. The sun continues to set. The moon continues to come out. The stars are there at night.
I mean, things continue to move. Whether someone dies or someone is born, nothing stops. In a weird way, that helped bring some comfort to me as far as what to do and how to handle things, because we have to keep going forward. We have to keep moving.
I was just telling my husband, there’s no way we can do anything without Christ. We just can’t. There’s just too much going on. If there ever was a time to hold close to God, to hold close to your beliefs, it’s now when the world is just so crazy. But God doesn’t change. It’s just steady. The Bible is the same. God is the same. There’s no change in that.
Anyway, I have talked to you about seven minutes on that, so I’m going to shift gears a bit and let’s talk about your virtual assistant business. Hopefully, you haven’t left me because I got into that. But again, it is something that is affecting us all. But we must move forward in this.
This time may have also made you want to get started or get moving or get to the next level of your business even more because of either the holiday and you wanted to be off more days and weren’t able to be off, or because of what’s going on because you needed to take a minute, an afternoon, or a nap, whatever, and you couldn’t. You had to keep going.
Hey, this week, give yourself grace.
