In Words:
Hey and welcome to The Business of Being a Virtual Assistant. I’m your host, Tiffany Parson, and you’re watching episode number 129.
Well, oh, this week has been crazy. I missed my deadline to record for two days now. I’m sure my assistant, Shannon, is like, okay, come on, Tiffany. Are we going to have a recording or not? So this is how I’m recording, right from my desk.
Oh, my goodness. I have been training for the past two weeks. It’s like kind of a passing on the baton with one of my clients, and so I am not used to talking what I consider all day, so half the day. I’m not used to talking for half the day for five days for two weeks, and it’s exhausting, okay. Whew. I always keep it real with you. It’s exhausting.
I didn’t want to miss an episode because we’ve got a nice rhythm here going. Every week, get to talk to you. You guys comment on social or send me an email, so I didn’t want to mess up our flow. Today, I’m just coming at you right here. You get to see all the stuff on my desk. I have two desks, one back here and one I’m sitting at, and the one back here needs some organizing. You see that? Oh, what can I say?
Let’s talk about transition and keeping things moving and fresh in your business.
It’s easy to get stuck in a routine. Maybe you’ve been doing the same thing for a long time. Maybe you have been scheduling social media or doing bookkeeping or creating graphics. You have a nice rhythm. It’s going, going, going. I’ve talking about specializing many times before and specializing is like your leading thing. But if it’s the only thing you’re doing, it may get to a point where it’s monotonous and you’re not finding any joy in your work.
Not too long ago, I got a new client and getting a chance to really dive back into some more technical things. You know, I like to look at the code and get into that. When I tell you it has helped me so much in doing that, just to get my creative juices flowing for my business overall, being able to do that.
All of my projects used to be like that, and that’s what I’m getting back to in how I serve any new clients that come along, to be able to tinker under the hood of their websites with their funnels. Blog posts and social media as well, but leading with the technical stuff, leading with the stuff that gets me excited. You know, I like doing some of the other things where you get into a routine. But I think it’s the variety is key.
Even if you’re specializing, you probably want to add some variety to that as well.
Maybe you don’t know another skill to add to it, so it’s time to learn something new. What do you want to learn? Do you want to learn how to do Canva? Do you want to learn PicMonkey? Do you want to learn Facebook ads or…I’m trying to think, community management with social media? There’s just a wide range of things that you can learn.
Last month, in the Virtual Assistant Business Owners Circle, we talked about freshening up our websites, kind of like spring cleaning our websites and with a focal point on our services and getting that locked in as to what we’re going to provide to clients. Then this month, we’re going to dive into our blog content.
I told you being able to look at code for different clients has got my creative juices just flowing like crazy because now I want to write and it’s been while since I have written. I’ve done, you know, my videos and audios talking, but actually writing words.
Now, I want to write. I want to, you know, do more of a mix. It’s probably been, I don’t know, maybe a year since I’ve written. Anything that you see written, at one point, it was probably on audio or something real quick that I text myself like if you see my posts on social and stuff.
But really diving in to blog content. I was, you know, way back when, blogs were the number one thing and social media was, you know, not even on the rise. It was all about blogs. So it’s time to get back into that because a lot of people will be able to find you in a Google search just because of your blog post, and so that’s what we’re going to be talking about in the Virtual Assistant Business Owners Circle this month.
If you’ve never heard of this, you’re like, “What is that, Tiffany? I want to be a part of the Circle.” Then head to my website, TiffanyParson.com, and if you go to it, I think at the top there’s a free webinar. The webinar is from December because that’s when we initially kicked off the program. It’s a monthly membership. We kicked it off in December so we could dive into 2018. Look at that free webinar. It gives you an introduction to the program. I’ll be doing some more free webinars in the coming months to give you a sneak peek as to what we’ll be doing every month on that.
It’s taking a minute for my website to come up, but when you click on that, click on the free webinar: How to Set Yourself Apart in 2018. Click on that. That will get you added to the list so you can get access to that free training. If you just want to fast-forward it to the part where I talk about the Virtual Assistant Business Owners Circle, feel free to do that.
If you have questions about it, you can comment below the video, send me a message on Facebook, or comment on the blog post, message on Twitter. I’m trying to think of all the different ways you may be watching this video. Yeah, it’s right there as soon as you go to it. I just wanted to make sure since I’m telling you this. I just wanted to make sure that is accurate. So, yeah, that’s exactly where it is.
But, yeah, so we’re working on building a community of virtual assistants where I’m showing you a new skill every month and also how to incorporate that with your business. So, like I said, this month, the focus is on blog content.
I remember when I first started blogging and I was a part of a coaching group and the majority of the people in the coaching group, they were coaches or they had like ecommerce sites or something like that. Very few were actually service providers where they were providing a service like a virtual assistant service.
I remember doing research and finding out, you know, should virtual assistants blog and stuff, and it seemed like everything I was finding was saying, no, VAs shouldn’t blog. Their clients don’t want to, you know, read their blog, and that’s absolutely not true.
There’s a lot of information that you know and that you learn every single day that could be helpful to your client.
You know, perfect example, recently I’ve been working with different clients that have like WordPress hosting for their websites. It’s important to know what is the difference between having a regular hosting service for your website versus having a WordPress hosting. You know, we’ve run into some stumbling blocks with the WordPress hosting. At this point, I may have gone into a technical jargon. But anyway, If I were going to write a blog post about it, I’d break it way, way down.
So far, I’m just learning about what the limits are versus what the benefits are. I can remember, you know, three years ago WordPress hosting wasn’t a thing. So is it just a way to get people to pay a little more, whatever, for their hosting plan or what? I’m not sure.
But anyway, that would make a great blog post just to educate clients on what the differences are, especially if someone is brand new starting a website. Someone could be doing a search and end up running into my article that’s on my website. Of course, since I’m recording this, I am noting that that is a brilliant idea for a blog post.
There are all, you know, all these different resources that are popping up all the time. What in your specialty that’s popping up all the time for people to use that would be helpful or not?
I also have been digging around. If you’re curious to know the difference between Leadpages and ClickFunnels, you know, what is the difference? You know, ClickFunnels is more robust than Leadpages, depending on what you’re looking for. That’s another example of a blog post that a potential client would be interested in.
The fact that you demonstrate that you’re knowledgeable about these things also sets you apart from the rest because it automatically says she knows her stuff. Just you hearing me say this, while you may not understand everything I’m saying, you already know, oh, wow, yeah, that’s pretty neat. Tiffany knows her stuff.
If your thing is, let’s see, creating social media graphics, maybe you’ve got your favorite apps that are your go-to apps all the time. You’ve seen the video memes. Video memes hasn’t always been out. It’s, you know, a new thing. How are people creating video memes? If you’re wondering what the heck is a video meme, do a quick Google search to find out.
You know, I started seeing those videos, it’s the videos with the words on the top and the bottom, and I wondered how were people doing that. I mean, I know how to do that longhand and create it. But I was pretty positive most people weren’t creating it the long way using a video editor. No, there’s an app for that.
If you provide social media content or help people repurpose their videos, that might be something that could be helpful for them. You know, I’m just thinking that’s another blog post that I could write because I help people to repurpose their recordings, whether it’s audio recordings or video recordings. So you see how it can go on and on and we’ll get more into this in the Virtual Assistant Business Owners Circle.
But again, I wanted to make sure that I came with our podcast episode. There’s so much stuff in my head. It’s good to just talk and release it and get it out, wrapping up the end of the week.
You know, I got on – I worked all day at my desk today and realized that it was an icicle and put on this – I don’t want to call it an ugly sweater. It used to be cute. Now, it has kind of turned to an ugly sweater. But anyway, it’s warm and now I’m probably hot. But anyway, just so I could do the recording.
It’s the first time I ever sat here and decided, you know what, I’m going to just start recording. My phone is sitting in my pen holder, so no tripod today. No special light today. A little light from IKEA today and just right there. So we are literally like we’re side by side in our cubes today talking, right [laughs].
All right, this is Tiffany, your virtual coworker. I hope you have a wonderful, fabulous, and rested day, okay. I will see you in the next episode.
