A Message to close out the year strong.
Dear Virtual Assistants, Social Media Managers, Freelancers and other Virtual Service Providers,
You’re neglecting your number one client.
What happens when you don’t look after your own business?
- You fail.
- Your website sucks.
- You haven’t been on Facebook since last year.
- Your last tweet was not relative to your business or the benefit of a future client. It was about your cat.
You’re sucking at serving your number one client and it shows in your:
- rates
- client roster
- energy
- confidence
- self-image
It’s literally putting you out of business.
When was the last time you looked at your website and got excited about it and the content on it?
When was the last time you emailed your list? You do have a list, right?
Do you have something free to offer someone who may be interested in your services?
I’ve been getting pissed off for you behind the scenes because of what I’m seeing and reading.
I get emails from people wanting a virtual assistant and they don’t even specify what they want.
Instead they write “What do you charge for your VA services?”
Are we prostitutes?
Can you go into a little more detail regarding what you’re looking for?
Even if you walk into a grocery store you know what you came to buy.
When was the last time you went into the hair salon and just said “I need my hair done.”
Yeah, blank stare is what you’re going to get just like what I gave the emails.
And it’s not the person sending the emails fault. We’ve done this to ourselves. Us, virtual service providers have become the lowly
staff member on the totem poll.
We’ve allowed clients to mistreat us because of how we feel about ourselves.
We don’t feel worthy to charge more because we don’t understand the value we bring to our clients.
You might think it’s menial to schedule someone’s social media posts each month. Try doing it for yourself and then you’ll
appreciate the value you bring to clients and it will reflect in your price and not based on the time it takes you.
You might think it’s menial to post a blog post for someone on a weekly basis. Try doing it for yourself including selecting the
images, writing the meta description, and ensuring it’s all set for search engine optimization along with being shareable on social
media. Do all of that for yourself and you will come to appreciate the value you bring to your clients.
I normally don’t rant, but it’s probably time I get started. I’ve been holding way too much in for too long.
Know you bring great value to your clients and their business. They really couldn’t do it all without you.
It’s time to increase in every way:
- rates
- client roster
- energy
- confidence
- self-image
Do what it takes so that 2015 is a better year. In fact, start now so that you go into the New Year with a business that’s already better than before.
Love you much!
Tiffany 🙂
