Hi and welcome to The Business of Being a Virtual Assistant. I’m your host, Tiffany Parson and you’re watching and listening to episode number 208 this is part three of our year in review. And this is going to sum it up. Uh well not really sum it up, but kind of wrap things up.
The last thing that’s important for us after we’ve gotten our numbers. Um, we know what worked. What didn’t work. We know where we are going, what our goals are gonna be for next year. The last thing is to clean your space. What I mean by that is three areas that need cleaning before we enter into the new year.
Your physical space. Mental space and digital space. So those are the three areas to clean. I’m going to go really quickly and explain what those three areas are, how it relates to our business, what it means for us. And then we’re all set and headed on into the new year.
Okay. Number one, your physical space. That’s easy enough. Look around your office. What do you need to throw away throw away? Right? So cleaning is not organizing. We’re not organizing. We are cleaning. We’re throwing it away, dusting, cleaning, get rid of the dirt.
The things that don’t go in the space anymore. Right? So that’s cleaning our physical space. Not organizing, not rearranging cleaning. All right. Physical. Oh, that was your physical, that was physical.
That was easy. Right. No one. Easy physical spaces space where you work if you don’t have an office, if it’s the corner where you’re you work um the what is it tv tray. If you work on a tv tray or whatever it is. Your physical space clean that your laptop your computer your keyboard clean that it gets a little crumbs.
If you working at your desk working at your computer and you have snacks and cleaning out get the little air sprayer for your keyboard, clean off everything sparkling shiny fur fresh. Right. All right number three I’m gonna switch that one. Number two digital digital space.
So what that looks like is if you’re desktop folder I’m not gonna say desktop screen because there’s an app called I think hide me or something like that. I use my laptop where you can hide your icons on your desktop. So I’m not gonna say when you look on your screen um if it’s you know showing everything you’ve saved to the desktop but in the desktop folder in your download folder in your documents folder wherever things land when you save them or screenshot them or download them.
Where do they go? Does all that stuff needs to be looked at and cleaned up? Get rid of it, put it in the trash or save it store it where it needs to go. Put it in the right folder where it needs to go um somewhere. Dropbox box dot com not boxed.
Is it box or is it shared anyway wherever you put your folders. Um dropbox uh google drive wherever a safe place? External hard drive. Just it probably needs to come off your computer because it’s taking up space. And what are we doing? We are cleaning our space.
Those three folders, desktop download and documents folder they get filled up fast. And if there are any other folders on your computer that you need to clean up, clean up those, if you say, oh all those folders are super clean, then go wherever your files folders, all your download things are and clean it up. Get rid of things that no longer serve a purpose for you or for your business.
That’s cleaning up our digital space. Also go on social media. Or if you’re a part of any groups, dead groups, dead groups or groups that nobody’s posted to them in months. I have groups where you know, nobody’s posted in a year, six months and I haven’t left.
I’m like, oh maybe they’ll post no time to leave the dead groups. That’s cleaning up your digital space. Um if you have uh if you’re following anybody, you know that you know in your mind you’re like, oh yeah I’m supposed I should have unfollowed them loans. Gohan follow and follow clean up your digital space.
I’m trying to think of all the areas. We’ve got a computer socially, emails. How can I forget emails, emails. What’s going on with your email? If you were if I were to say, let me see how many emails you have you if you were to send me a screenshot right now. How many emails are just sitting? How many unread emails?
I mean if nothing else, select them all and mark them as read. So those those notifications goes down dive a little deeper and start deleting things that no longer serve. You. Go back all the way back to the beginning of the year in january and see what emails you’ve got. You might have emails all the way from 2017 that you need to get rid of because they’re just sitting there.
If it no longer serves you you haven’t had to use it. You haven’t had to go back and look for it. I get saving things. I get not deleting emails. However if they’re old and you know there were just a notification. Oh this is ready, that’s ready whatever and you just let it sit it’s time to remove it.
Save your client emails, remove all that other stuff. You know what emails need to get removed from your digital space. You know exactly what I’m talking about. Alright. Ah in the process of our cleaning, I want to also take a moment and acknowledge our sponsors right? Podcast Sponsor: GT Bootcamp for being our sponsor for today. Alright, let’s get back to cleaning our space.
We talked about our physical space where we work actually cleaning it, not organizing it, cleaning it’s open water, sponge, dust, dust brush. Um just smart whatever. Because everybody’s area is different. Everybody will need a trash bag because we got you got stuff that needs to be just thrown out a little sprayer for your keyboard, cleaning out um your equipment cleaning off your phone.
I didn’t say that earlier but add that. Alright digital. We talked about our files on our computer, social media groups, emails and anything else digital that you can think of that. You know, you need to clean out and get it straight before the new year.
# three. And this is the last area uh that we need to clean the last space. We need to clean. This is serious somehow. Take a short short little break the last thing number three mental space. Clean your mental space. What I mean by that is your thoughts, things that you’ve been telling yourself all year, that has not been positive.
If there are people that you’re allowing in your mental space, you gotta clean that up, you gotta figure out a plan to block what they’re saying, so it doesn’t penetrate in your mind and then you take it off with you and repeat it to yourself over and over again. If there are clients that are causing you anguish, which gets into your mental space, you gotta clean that up for our mental cleaning, looks like refilling it with something, something positive.
So if we’re saying negative soundbites to ourselves, we need to refill it with positive. We need to how can I say this, rebuke the enemy, but it’s causing this to happen, we need to like punch it in the kneecaps to block it because that is not of god, it’s something that’s keeping you from what your purpose is, it’s keeping you from making a difference in somebody else’s life, it’s holding you back from your potential and your success, we all have it and we have to all do our cleaning to get it out.
This can come from things we bring to the table from our experiences from childhood, it can be something that we’ve let in through client project or types of people, things, we read things we watch things we engage with, it’s gotta get clean, you gotta clean it out because it’s stumping your growth and maybe you’re thinking like, well tiffany, you know, I’m good, my mental, I’m all clear.
I don’t think anybody is all clear, not in this day and time because it’s even if it’s not an issue in regards to what you’re saying to yourself, what are you taking in? Are you taking in all the news, all the negativity that’s coming at us every single day from illness reports, crime reports, deaths, doubt, lack these things are coming at us at every angle.
We got to clean it up. We gotta, you know, clear it out, I’m saying for the new year, but this really is ongoing. It just starts now as we approach the new year and I’m putting a spotlight on it because it’s, it’s greater than just a positive affirmation.
No, we want to set up a pattern of positive things, a pattern of acknowledging when something happens, that is negative. We acknowledge it, we handle it, but we don’t carry it with us over and over and over and over again into the next project, into our business, into our home.
I want you to know this is it’s not so that you um, like act oblivious to it. Just don’t carry it on your back, handle it right then and be okay with it and move forward. A bad client experience a comment. They say an email, they right handle it in that moment, leave it there and go forward.
So imagine this whole year if we didn’t handle situations, we just took it and took it and took it and took it and took it in and took it in, take it in. Do you feel the weight of that? So we got to get it off, get it off, get it off, get it off and not let it come back, not take it on, not take it on, I’m gonna leave this right there.
There’s more I can say about that. I don’t want this episode to be too long. I also know that all of my listeners are not christian, but I’m a christian, I believe in jesus christ, he is my lord and savior and prayer is a huge part of my life, my business, how I’m even recording this podcast right now, because I if it were left up to me a lot of times, you know, just me and the physical, my nature, just human.
If I don’t have all the right answers, if I don’t have the information or the content right in the moment. So I put it off, put it off, but I can’t do that anymore. The quote I gave you in the last episode, you can go back to episode 207 to hear what that quote was.
I have it hanging attacked it to my board in my office in big letters. So when I sit down to get ready to do something that makes me uncomfortable that I could easily procrastinate and I just look over at it, looking at it now and get back to work. But I pray and ask god, what is it that you want me to say, am I to do this today?
I don’t do it every day, but I got to get better at doing it every day. That is also helpful in cleaning your mental space for those of you who are christians that is going to help you in cleaning your mental space. Because if we’re doing that on a regular basis every day, morning, noon and night all day, every we do that on a regular basis, then guess what?
When the negativity comes, just like it’ll bounce off, bounce off, bounce off, bounce off again. Not that we’re not addressing it, not that we don’t see it, but not as much will come our way because we won’t even digest it, we won’t take it in, we won’t take it in.
It’ll be like, I can’t even read this, let me I’ll stop reading it, stopped following the person, stop watching the video, stop listening to the song, stop watching the movie. It’ll be automatic because you’re filled with the holy spirit and only that negative stuff and the holy spirit, they can’t go together.
It doesn’t go together. So we got to clean our mental space and get ready for the year, along with cleaning up our physical and our digital space, thank you so much for watching and listening to uh this episode.
